American University of Armenia is organizing a series of workshops tackling the issues below.
The workshop on Forced migration (Wednesday, July 9 · 10:30am - 12pm) will focus on the coverage of forced migration — the involuntary movement of people from their homes or regions due to factors like conflict, persecution, or natural disasters — based on the latest research conducted in the United States in the field of humanitarian reporting. The workshop hopes to generate ideas related to improving newsroom practices in covering forced migration.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Bimbisar Irom is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Production at Washington State University. He conducts research in the area of humanitarian communication with a particular focus on forced migration.

The Workshop on Ethics Issues in the Newsroom (Thursday, July 10 · 10:30am - 12pm) will focus on some of the major ethics issues that confront journalists and how United States news organizations are addressing them. Dr. Bimbisar Irom will discuss and generate ideas about navigating ethical concerns related to issues such as loyalty, objectivity, privacy, and more.

Dr. Bimbisar Irom is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Production at Washington State University. He conducts research in the area of humanitarian communication with a particular focus on forced migration.

The workshop on Information Integrity and Digital Platforms (Thursday, July 10 · 5 - 6pm)
will offer examples of the flow of information in digital news and information platforms, highlighting some of the challenges and solutions being implemented in United States newsrooms.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Porismita Borah is a professor in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, a graduate faculty in the Ph.D in Prevention Science program, and the director of the Digital Media & Society Lab at Washington State University. Dr. Borah primarily studies discourse on digital platforms as well as message effects in the context of both politics and health. Her work has been published in top journals such as Journal of Communication, Political Communication, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, and New Media and Society. She has received funding from multiple sources, including the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, Social Science Research Council, and the Poynter Institute, for her research.
